Urban Inclusion

In modern branding

The KM12 project evolved the logo of a beloved bus driver turned local celebrity into a multi-surface design system without stripping away its authenticity legacy or equity.

Modern redesigns often discard original visual heritage in favor of sterile minimalism. For the King of M12—a celebrated NYC transit hero with deep local roots—the challenge was to expand the visual system across digital platforms, web applications, and physical goods while maintaining the raw urban authenticity of the original emblem.

Applying our Brandscaping methodology, we adopted an "Inclusion Not Replacement" framework. The classic legacy logo was preserved as an authenticated OG asset for specific large-scale and patch applications, while a modern, geometric core brandmark was engineered for micro-scale favicons, social avatars, and technical production. We built a complementary typographic system pairing bold urban display styles with structured sans-serifs, reinforced by a color palette drawn directly from New York transit infrastructure.

We expanded the identity into a full physical merchandise collection including custom headwear with woven patches and patterned under-brims, apparel, technical drinkware, and geometric transit-grid accessories. The resulting system bridges community heritage and modern production, giving the brand room to scale sustainably across both digital and physical touchpoints.
